FAQ

What is it used to treat?

CryoPen™ offers the ideal treatment for lesions on the face, around the eyes, scalp or body including: * Skin tags * Moles * Verrucas * Warts * Age/liver spots * Solar lentigo (sun spots) * Freckles/ Pigmented lesions * Milia (milk spots) * Cherry angioma (red blisters) * Seborrhoeic keratosis (brown warts) * Condyloma (genital or anal warts) * Molluscum Contagiosum (water warts) * Dermatofibroma …. and more.

How long does it take?
The treatment time for each skin lesion depends on the size and thickness. Procedures typically last 5-25 seconds for each skin lesion.
How does it work?

The CryoPen™ is used to apply a fine jet of nitrous oxide gas under high pressure onto the skin lesion. This gas is extremely cold (-89°C) so it helps to freeze and destroy any benign skin lesions. It does this by forming ice shards and crystals inside the cells that make up the lesion, causing the membranes surrounding the treated cells to burst and be destroyed. Because the jet of nitrous oxide is very fine, it allows the doctor to work with pin point accuracy so that there is no damage to the surrounding healthy skin.

During treatment, you may see a frost or ice-field on top of the lesion which disappears within a few seconds. After treatment we advise that you leave the area uncovered as this helps with healing. We may apply a simple dressing or plaster if there is a chance that the lesion may get rubbed or irritated in any way. The treated lesions may initially form a blister but they should heal within 1 to 4 weeks and scabs formed around the lesion will shed after a week to 10 days.

How long does it last?
Clinical data shows that the results are permanent after one or two treatments.
Are there any side effects?

CryoPen therapy has been shown to be quite low risk and very safe. Side effects include:

  • Mild stinging
  • Sores / blisters – where the lesion was treated. Improves by itself
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Pigment changes – commoner in darker skin types
  • Slight scarring
